CASE HISTORIES

GOVERNMENTAL NEGLIGENCE
$2,750,000 settlement for a 19-year-old man who suffered bilateral leg amputation as a direct result of negligent inspection/consultation by Iowa OSHA for the man’s employer.

CONSTRUCTION LITIGATION
$70,007 decree in favor of client who was the victim of fraud and negligent construction. Decree included $5,000 in punitive damages.
$280,000 settlement from a local church for payment of work performed by our client who the church tried to avoid paying by falsely claiming that the work was defective.

MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE
$800,000 settlement for five children whose mother died as a result of mistakes made by hospital physicians. The mother died after being given a second platelet transfusion after the first transfusion nearly killed her. 
$50,000 settlement for a woman whose surgeon left a sponge inside her body at the conclusion of surgery. The woman was sick for six months and required a second surgery to remove the sponge. 
$250,000 settlement for parents of an infant who was treated with epinephrine and was sent home in violation of protocol and the infant died from rebound swelling a short time after discharge.

PRODUCT LIABILITY 
$20,000 settlement for a woman who was injured by a defective medical device.
$100,000 settlement for a 19-year-old man who was severely injured by a defective manufacturing system.
$50,000 settlement for an employee who suffered serious personal injury at work due to a defective system.
$80,000 settlement for an employee who suffered serious personal injury at work as a result of of a dangerous and defective system.
$10,000 settlement from a product manufacturer for an injured employee.
$419,544 settlement from a defective baling machine manufacturer.

REAL ESTATE TRANSACTION
$40,000 jury verdict for an 80-year-old woman who bought a house from a seller who failed to disclose known problems with water intrusion into the basement.

WORKERS’ COMPENSATION
$100,000 settlement toward the cost of home for a client. The client also received payment over $1,000,000 in medical expenses, plus lifetime benefits.
$45,000 van and conversion costs for employee who suffered bilateral amputations at work. The case expanded the rights of injured workers in Iowa.
$85,000 customized power wheelchair for seriously injured employee.
$5,000 laptop computer for a seriously injured employee. The case expanded the right of injured workers in Iowa.
$154,500 settlement for an employee who was injured at work when they tripped and fell down concrete stairs. The employer initially refused any weekly benefits, medical benefits, or to return the employee to work.
$80,000 settlement for employee who suffered a crushed hand with permanent disfigurement and partial paralysis.

PERSONAL INJURY
$75,000 settlement for a 17-year-old girl who suffered scaring to her face in a motor vehicle accident.
$72,500 settlement for an 18-year-old woman who was injured by another boater on the Missouri River.
$147,000 settlement against property owner and trailer park owner for injuries to a 6-year-old boy who was attacked by three pit bull dogs.
